As System Function Design Engineer (engine & aftertreatment controls engineer) in Eindhoven, you develop advanced control concepts for heavy-duty diesel engines and powertrains, with a focus on emission control, aftertreatment and on-board diagnostics (OBD).

For a global technology leader in premium trucks, Trinamics is looking for a senior controls engineer for the engine development center of competence. You join the system function design group, which designs control concepts to meet new customer and legal (EU and NA) requirements, in a multidisciplinary team.

Working hours: 36 hours per week, regular office hours, on site in Eindhoven.

Must-haves

  • MSc in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering, specialized in dynamics and control.
  • Automotive experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with engine and aftertreatment controller development.
  • Experience with Six Sigma processes, such as DMAIC, Design for Six Sigma, FMEA and Monte Carlo.
  • Extensive knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Good knowledge of requirements engineering.
  • Good command of English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with OBD and EU/NA emission regulations.
  • IREB certification.
  • Knowledge of development process models such as SPICE.
  • Testing experience with SIL, HIL and RCP on an engine.
  • Experience with DOORS Next Generation.
  • Dutch language skills.
  • You are proactive, creative, detail-oriented and persistent, a strong communicator and a true team player.

You translate new emission, OBD and product requirements into robust, implementable control strategies and act as the technical integrator between suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • You develop advanced control concepts and functionality for heavy-duty diesel engine, aftertreatment, emission control and diagnostic functions.
  • You lead the development of emission-related controls and OBD/OBM concepts, including the definition, specification and alignment of system and controller requirements.
  • You develop, integrate and test control concepts in SIL, HIL and Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) environments, and on engine and vehicle level.
  • You verify and validate control functionality and keep clear documentation of controller requirements at engine/aftertreatment system level.
  • You align requirements, controls, software implementation, calibration and system behavior between suppliers and internal teams.
  • You support calibration engineers with initial calibration, and support software implementation, object-code generation, integration and maintenance.
  • You share your engine, aftertreatment and OBD expertise and help shape the vision for future concepts.
  • You take initiative to improve tools and processes, working closely with controls, software, calibration, diagnostics and system engineering.
