Taking a new step in your career is exciting. You want to move forward, you want to grow, and you want to work somewhere your knowledge can truly shine. Yet at Tech Talents, we often see the same pitfalls recurring and that’s a shame, because with a few small insights, you can make much smarter choices.

Here are the four mistakes we see most often.

1. Focusing only on salary

Of course, a good salary is important. But if money is your only motivation, you risk ending up in a role that drains your energy instead of giving you energy. A job where you can’t fully use your talents will quickly feel like a step backward, regardless of the salary.

Instead, look at the bigger picture:

  • What projects will you work on?

  • How much responsibility will you get?

  • What can you learn?

  • Does the role align with your future ambitions?

The right overall package ultimately delivers more than just a high paycheck.

2. Not checking growth potential

Many Tech Talents choose a job based on what they can do right now. But the real question is: where could you be in two or five years?

Growth opportunities include:

  • Learning new technologies

  • Certifications

  • Progressing to a senior level

A job that feels good today should still challenge you tomorrow.

3. Underestimating company culture

Even the best role can be the wrong choice if the culture doesn’t fit.

Ask yourself questions like:

  • Will you work in a team that suits you?

  • Is there room for initiative?

  • How are mistakes, deadlines, and workload handled?

  • Does the way of collaborating match your style?

Culture determines whether you enjoy going to work and whether you stay long-term.

4. Waiting too long and overthinking

Strong technical vacancies are often filled quickly. Many Tech Talents keep searching, comparing, and doubting… until the opportunity has passed. Doubt usually comes from a lack of clarity: What suits me? What do I really want? What does the market offer? That’s exactly why guidance is so valuable.

Doubting? Start with a career check

A short, focused check gives you clarity in one conversation on:

  • Your strengths

  • Suitable roles

  • Growth paths

  • A culture that fits you

  • Concrete opportunities in the market

No pressure, no obligations just clarity. So you can make the right choice with confidence.

Frequently asked questions about working through secondment

How long does an average secondment project last?

In most cases, you will work for approximately one year at a single client through Trinamics. This is sufficient time to truly become part of the team and demonstrate your capabilities. At the end of this period, you will often be hired by the company. Could a project be shorter or longer? That is possible, but the starting point is always that the assignment aligns with your development and that you end up in a position where you can grow in the long term.

Can I also progress to a permanent position with the client through secondment?

Yes, this happens regularly. If both you and the client are satisfied, a switch to a direct appointment is often negotiable. We will assist you in this process and ensure that it runs smoothly.

What happens when my project ends?

You remain employed by Trinamics. Before the end of your assignment, we will discuss the next step together. Sometimes this means that you will be taken on by the company where you are working. If that is not the case, we will help you look for a new job that matches your ambitions and qualities. This way, you always have a clear view of the next step in your career.
