5 practical resume tips for you

Your CV is a living document that can change over time and per vacancy. Your CV is often read first and then your cover letter. That is why it is important that you immediately capture the reader's attention. This way your potential employer can see all relevant information at a glance.

Your profile
A common mistake when drawing up a CV is simply listing your study and work experience. A resume is more than just a piece of text! In addition to your experience, also process your personal brand. Who are you? What makes you unique? Introduce yourself in a few lines and put it at the top of your resume. This way the reader immediately has a clear picture of who you are as a person, before you continue with naming your hard skills. Ask yourself the following questions:

• What am I good at?
• What are my ambitions?
• What am I looking for in a new position?

Mention Promotions
Don't forget to mention your promotions. Perhaps you have been given more responsibility within your current position or perhaps you have progressed to another role/department. When you mention this on your CV, you make it clear that you have managed to develop yourself well and that this has been rewarded.

Not much work experience yet? Name projects!
When you have just graduated and are looking for your first dream job, it is of course not possible to fill your CV completely with work experience. In that case, describe which school projects you have completed and indicate which minor you have followed. This way you deepen your CV more. This also applies to ancillary activities and committees, etc. You can then link these lists to the substantiation of your skills.

Match your CV to the vacancy
It sounds obvious, because who doesn't match their CV to the position? Yet many applicants use one standard version. Nothing wrong with that, but customization is always better. It is also important for HR managers to see that you do not send a standard CV to 100 other organizations, but make a conscious choice to apply for a job with them. You also give the impression that you have really paid attention to your application. So check for each vacancy which information about you is valuable and relevant to include in your CV. With the help of the vacancy text and the corporate website you can get a good idea of what the employer is asking.

Make your resume scannable
Trinamics and many other staffing agencies use search engines and systems to search/scan resumes. Therefore, use as many relevant keywords as possible in your resume. That way, your resume is easier to find in large databases. But which words do you choose to ensure that your CV comes up when a specific profile is searched? Look at the description of the job title/activities and the requirements listed in vacancies that appeal to you. For example, you can state that you have knowledge of certain (computer) programs and languages, but you can also clearly state specific systems.
